Struggling boy opens backpack teen girl put on his desk and quickly drops head down

If you look hard enough, you can easily find a way to change someone’s day.Sadly, most of the time, we’re off in our own worlds, too concerned with our daily lives to really recognize what others are going through. Sofi Cruz, a young teen from Southern Carolina, recently had an opportunity to help somebody— and she definitely didn’t miss out.

In a Facebook post, the teen explained how she had been having a conversation with her good friend Jaheim when he made an interesting comment. The comment itself wasn’t too noteworthy, but for some reason, something about it stuck with Sofi for the next few days. She wrote: “The past week and a half, I have been planning on doing something special for a good friend of mine. His name is Jahiem.”

“I have known Jahiem sine the 3rd grade in Mrs. Dragotta’s class.”

“He has always been the student where he does all of his work when due, never misses school, always helping the teacher out with stuff in class, and always being a happy human being.”

“Last week, he didn’t want to sound ‘in-need’, but Jahiem asked, ‘Can someone buy me a pair of shoes? I don’t like mine and I wear a [size] 10-11.”

“I’ve always thought about getting him something before but never had the money or guts to do it,” the teen continued.

However, this time, with the help of her family and a new job, Sofi put her surprise into action.
“Since I’ve gotten a job and have been working really hard, I got the money together and bought him a pair of shoes the next day. My Grandaddy helped me out, as well.”

In the following video, which has been shared thousands of times on social media and broadcast on media outlets around the nation, we see the thoughtful Sofi giving Jahiem his surprise.

Sofi tells Jahiem they’ve known each other for a long time, and he is a very special friend to her. She explains that since she got a job, she’s been wanting to do something nice for someone, and she decided it would be him.

“This is for you,” she says, dropping the backpack onto his desk.

Jahiem wears a slight grin as he opens the bag and pulls out a box.

Jahiem thanks Sofi, but she tells him there’s more stuff inside. He pulls out item after item, revealing she had made him a goodie bag of clothing including shirts and socks.

Still, Jaheim keeps it together— but when Sofi leans in for a hug, he completely starts to break down.
“When giving him his stuff and watching him open his bag, all my emotions were coming out. Seeing him cry was very emotional because I could see that he didn’t know what to think.”

Sofi wrote:

“I am so thankful that giving Jaheim those shoes made him so happy and allowed me to realize that giving someone something so special can be life-changing.”

“Love you Jahiem, with everything in me.”
