19-year-old takes twin brother with special needs to his senior prom when he has no date

With senior prom coming up at Carlos Colon’s school he couldn’t wait to go but sadly didn’t have a date.

The 19-year-old had just graduated from Haverhill High School, in Massachusetts, which is no mean feat for this inspirational student who is blind and has autism.

When his twin sister Brianna heard that Carlos didn’t have a date she stepped in so her brother could enjoy his senior prom.

“Just because he’s blind and autistic doesn’t mean he can’t have fun. I’m glad he got to experience it and he danced a lot, so I’m really glad he went and all that,” said Brianna, as per Boston 25 News.

Brianna’s senior prom was cancelled last year due to the pandemic, so she was finally able to attend one.

“I’m lucky to have experienced it this time with him and somebody that I love very much,” Brianna, who just finished her freshman year at Bryant College, told Boston 25 News.

The siblings had their mother Jomay Colon’s full support.

“Brianna approached me and was like why shouldn’t he go? Just because he’s blind and autistic doesn’t mean he can’t go to a prom,” she said.

Survived and thrived
These twins are special; they were born at 24 weeks weighing only a pound a half. Carlos became blind shortly after birth and also had a brain bleed; he spent five months in hospital.

Despite the obstacles they faced at birth these siblings have not only survived but thrived and on prom night both celebrated their achievements with a night on the dancefloor.

Carlos just graduated from Haverhill High School, but he will stay at the school until he’s 22 to remain in the Life Skills Program. He plans to eventually attend the Perkins School For The Blind.

What inspirational siblings these two are; not only smart and determined but both with big hearts and a sweet devotion to each other that will serve to protect them throughout their lives.

Help us wish this pair all the happiness and success in their future by sharing this story.
