Barbara Eden is 91 and still enjoying a successful career over 50 years after ‘I Dream of Jeannie’

Barbara Eden, the iconic actress known for her role in the 1960s sitcom “I Dream of Jeannie,” continues to dazzle audiences at the age of 91. Her portrayal of Jeannie, the 2,000-year-old genie, left an indelible mark on television history. “We clicked… We’ve got the same truth out of whatever we were doing,” Eden reminisces about her chemistry with co-star Larry Hagman.

Born in 1931, Eden’s journey from Tucson, Arizona, to stardom included early singing studies and local nightclub performances. Encouraged by her mother, she ventured into acting, eventually landing in Los Angeles and on “The Johnny Carson Show” in 1955. Her career skyrocketed with “I Dream of Jeannie.”

The show’s whimsical premise and Barbara Eden’s enchanting portrayal made it a hit. Her daring harem attire and the fascination with her navel added to her status as a TV sex symbol admired by luminaries like John F. Kennedy and Elvis Presley.

At 91, Barbara Eden continues to shine. She played Mrs. Claus in the 2019 film “My Adventures with Santa” and debuted in theater. Maintaining her vigor with assistance from a personal trainer, she enjoys social interactions and even co-authored a children’s book, “Barbara and the Djinn,” weaving enchanting adventures reminiscent of her iconic role.
