“That Includes Himself”: Fetterman Roasted For Saying Americans “Not Sending Their Brightest” To DC [WATCH]

Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, the guy known for wearing a hoodie and gym shorts while his colleagues wear suits and for being more or less unable to complete a string of sentences thanks to his stroke, is now claiming that the quality of the average DC lawmaker is so bad it’s “scary.” Pot, meet kettle.

Fetterman’s comments came on Wednesday night, when he appeared on late night talk show host Stephen Colbert’s painfully unfunny “The Late Show,” with the supposed comedian asking Sen. Fetterman about the awkwardness of contentious DC relationships and Fetterman commenting on the quality of the average DC politician.

Colbert drew the response by asking, “Is it awkward to be in the Capitol and then run into people that you have put up a devastating meme about — because you’ve got excellent meme game — but then you have to see these people in the cafeteria?”

Fetterman, in response, said, “You all need to know that America is not sending their best and brightest to Washington, D.C. Sometimes you literally just can’t believe… these people are making the decisions that are determining the government here. It’s actually scary.”

Fetterman then went on to mock the Senators who still have some sense of propriety and the importance of appearing dignified, as came to the fore with the “Fetterman Rule” attempt to get rid of the Senate’s business attire dress code. Parodying and mocking the views of his dress code opponents, Fetterman said, “‘oh my God, the world is going to burn because he’s going to wear a hoodie on the floor.’”

The slovenly Senator then went on to say that he thinks the situation in the Ukraine is more important than what he wears, saying, “Ukraine or shutting down the government, all these issues. I think it’s much more important to see is, what will this man where on the floor of the Senate?”

Left out of that discussion was any comment on whether he looks like “the best and brightest” wearing a hoodie and gym shorts while stumbling through his sentences. But that wasn’t all. He also attacked House Republicans for somehow harming Israel by trying to replace the Speaker of the House.

He said, “As a senator, I am always going to stand on the side of Israel and I’m going to make sure that whatever is needed, military, intelligence or humanitarian, to vote for that and support that as well, too. Right now, they can’t do anything because we don’t have a speaker. This is what I’m talking about.”

Continuing, he added, “I know the president is committed to making sure that we deliver for Israel. But also Ukraine as well, too. We have a pivotal kind of position to be in that we have to stand with both of these kinds of campaigns, to stand for those kinds of people that are fighting against these kinds of awful kinds of enemies.”

Watch Fetterman here:

Predictably, Fetterman got roasted. Former Gov. Mike Huckabee, for example, wrote, “Fetterman speaks truth. He’s unaware of it, but he embodies the very truth he speaks. This could have been a skit on SNL. But it was a rare funny moment on Colbert.”

Similarly, Joe Concha wrote, “Yes. Fetterman — the guy who lived off of his parents into his 40s and has never held a job in the real world in his life — actually said that.” Benny Johnson added, “For once in his life, John Fetterman is correct. But is he aware that includes himself is the question.”
