Husband Pays Over $5k For Friends’ & Co-workers’ Christmas Presents, Wife Is ‘Shocked’ Seeing The Price Of Her Gift

A wife found out her husband had spent more than $5,000 on holiday presents.

But she was taken aback to discover that his chosen present was insignificant compared to the others.

A newlywed couple was enjoying their first Christmas together. After three years of dating, they continued a long-standing custom of buying and exchanging presents independently.

The woman inadvertently came across her husband’s Christmas list while organizing some belongings at home. She chose to read it just because she was curious.

She was very wounded upon learning her husband’s Christmas plans. To find out if her sentiments were inappropriate, she went to Reddit.

Her Husband Made Her Feel Insignificant
Presents for his loved ones outside the immediate family were her husband’s first priority.

A $600 watch for a coworker, a $250 bracelet for his sister-in-law, and $900 exercise gear for a buddy were among the most extravagant presents he purchased.

The woman was quite excited to see what he had gotten her for Christmas after seeing the thoughtfulness he put into his gifts for others.

Nonetheless, her mood took a turn for the worse as the list reached her name.

He opted for a $20 set of stainless steel kitchen spoons instead of something as fancy as the other items on his list.

The woman was taken aback and unable to suppress the pain she felt on the inside.

The Spouse Was Finally Confronted by the Wife
“I was too shocked to ignore this and I had a confrontation with him about it,” she explained.

Her husband made the comment that he could offer whatever he wanted as he paid for the presents himself.

The lady said that his callousness had made her feel insulted. The value of a gift shouldn’t be a factor in her appreciation, her spouse said.

Her husband was deeply distressed by the confrontation. At the same time, the woman’s perception that her husband did not appreciate her as much as she did meant that the episode remained fresh in her mind.

She would treat him to his beloved sneakers or gaming accessories while they were still dating. He finally called his wife an “ungrateful, spoiled brat.”

Even more extreme than that, he pleaded with her to stop being so self-centered and just enjoy her Christmas present. Because he thought she was being foolish, the husband stopped communicating with his wife after that.

Feeling conflicted and confused, the woman turned to Reddit for advice.

It came as a shock to her, but everyone had warned her that her husband didn’t treat her with the respect he showed his friends.

“If one of my coworkers spent so much more on me than on their own spouse, I would be SERIOUSLY weirded out,” one person noted. “If my BIL got me a $250 bracelet I’d be extremely uncomfortable. Throw in the fact that he only spent $20 on spoons for his wife I’d be appalled,” another added.

Some even went to the extent of telling the woman that she should get a divorce because of her husband’s bad character. “That’s a huge red flag to dote and shower others with gifts and not your significant other…but expect them to get you nice things in return. It’s beyond disrespectful,” one person said.

Putting yourself in the woman’s shoes, what action would you have taken? Is it fair that she asked her husband directly about his wish list for Christmas?
