Just a few days after celebrating their 13th wedding anniversary with a never-before-seen photo, Prince William is giving a long awaited update on Princess Catherine.
Over the last several months, the princess has been battling an undisclosed form of cancer. Catherine shared her diagnosis with the world in March 2024, after undergoing abdominal surgery just weeks earlier.
Roughly a month after sharing the news that “shocked” their family, Prince William began easing back into his normal royal duties. On April 30, the prince visited the “newly-opened Newcastle branch of James’ Place, a charity therapy center,” TIME reports.
The therapy center specializes in mental health in men, a cause that is very dear to William’s heart. During his visit there, the princes shared a rare update on Catherine’s wellbeing.
“Do you mind if I ask how your wife and children are?” one well wisher asked Prince William, according to TIME. “All doing well, thank you. Yes, we’re doing well,” he responded.
As Catherine revealed in her video statement shared on social media, her cancer was discovered after undergoing abdominal surgery. She explained that it had “taken time for me to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.”
“But most importantly,” she continued, “it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”
The princess, reassuring the public that she “will be okay,” then asked for continued privacy as she fights her cancer supported by those closest to her.
Where Catherine is in her cancer journey remains unknown.
Her father-in-law King Charles was also diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer around the same time. The King has since began easing back into his public duties earlier this week.
