Julia Roberts has been married to her husband for 20 years – inside their relationship

Julia Roberts is perhaps one of the most well-known actresses in the world. Her movies dominated the box office in the 1990s and even now she is a heavyweight in the world of Hollywood.

But in her personal life, she had a few hiccups till she met the man she considered ‘the one…’

Julia Roberts often played roles where she was averse or afraid of marriage. Much like her famous role in Runaway Bride she had a hard time settling down and was even engaged to several high-profile actors before she bit the bullet and finally settled down. In the past, the actress was famously engaged to Liam Neeson and Kiefer Sutherland among others.

It was in 1987 that she was first linked with Liam Neeson according to Closer Weekly but just a year later they called it quits. After that, she went on to date Dylan McDermott and was reportedly even engaged to him. But this ended as well leading her to date Keifer Sutherland. But a few years after meeting Keifer, she called it off with him as well.

After two broken engagements one after the other, Roberts surprised everyone by tying the knot with Lyle Lovett in 1993. But the marriage did not work out and the couple divorced soon after in 1995. The actress went on to date a spate of Hollywood actors and then she met Danny Moder while working on the sets of The Mexican.

Unlike her previous beaus, Moder was not famous but that did not bother the actress one bit. There, however, was one problem. Moder was still married to his first wife Vera Steimberg when he met Roberts. But his marriage ended soon afterward and he shared a beautiful relationship with Roberts after.

The couple tied the knot in 2002. And in their over 20 years of marriage, they have welcomed three children; their twins Phinnaeus and Hazel and son Henry.

While Roberts is notoriously private about her personal life, in 2018 she shared with Gwyneth Paltrow on the GOOP podcast how Moder made her feel. She said, “I think that first kind of real ‘seismic shift’ was meeting Danny, getting married to Danny… that was the first ‘my life will never be the same’ in the most incredible, indescribable way.”

She went on to gush about how much she loves and appreciates her husband, saying, “He truly, to this day, to this minute is just my favorite human … I’m more interested in what he has to say or his point of view just (more) than anybody. Really, we’re so lucky in that way. We just really, really like each other and we just enjoy each other’s company,”

She went on to explain their love for one another. She said, “We’ve been married for 16 years, we’ve been together for 18 … It just gets deeper, it just gets more complex.”

She also added that marriage can be a gamble and you never know whether it will work till you are in it. She said, “… you’re young and you fall in love and go, ‘Yeah, we’re going to get married and we’re going to build a house and will have kids,’ and all these things that we all kind of dream of, but you don’t know if you’re going to like the same couch and you don’t know if he is going to want to get patterned towels.”

“You just don’t know these things until you are right there doing it and we are so fortunate that there is some kind of some explicable harmony to the way we do thing,” the actress said, adding, “He’s the best decision I’ve ever made.”

In 2020, an insider shared details about the couple’s relationship. They said, “[Roberts and Moder] truly feel like soulmates,” further adding, “The chemistry between them is crucial. After all this time, Julia still finds Danny incredibly sexy, and he adores her still.” The couple is “committed to staying together for the long haul, whatever it takes,” they finished.
