Despite receiving immediate medical care, Brian was declared dead at Mount Sinai West. The assailant fled the scene, initially on foot and then on a rental bike. Authorities have confirmed Brian had received threats before the incident, though the details remain unclear.

His wife, Paulette, shared her deep sorrow, remembering Brian as a loving father and a generous leader who made a lasting impact on those around him. Brian, who lived in Minnesota with Paulette and their two sons, had been with UnitedHealth Group since 2004.

Over the years, he held various leadership positions and became CEO in 2021. He was known for his dedication to improving healthcare access and praised for his leadership in the healthcare industry. UnitedHealth Group released a statement mourning his loss, and authorities are continuing to investigate the situation.
