8 subtle signs that a person does not clean their home

Sometimes, we might visit someone’s place and wonder about their cleaning routine. Of course, everyone is different, and hence, we cannot expect the same level of cleanliness from everyone.

However, there are certain things you can look for to find out how people clean. Or even how your spouse or children clean! When you assign chores, sometimes people do not clean the right way, and these tips will help you identify it.

So keep reading to learn more about what signs to look for when you are unsure if something is clean the way you expect it to be.

When you visit someone’s place, things might seem tidy, but there is a big difference between someone taking the time to clean everything properly and just doing a quick, superficial tidying job. In this piece, we will help you identify some signs that will give you an idea of what happened before you got there.

1. Cluttered Corners
While the main areas of the room look clean, you should look at the corners, behind the doors, and under furniture. These are spots which usually collect dust. These areas reveal who did a thorough job or who just tried to do it superficially. People who are accustomed to keeping a tidy home make sure to keep the corners clean as well.

2. Lingering Odors
When you keep your home clean, the entire place has a nice smell to it. But sometimes people use air or room fresheners to mask bad smells which might result from uncleanlieness. Candles and fresheners can be used to hide the smell of dirty carperts, pets, or musty smells. A true clean room will not need too many artificial smells.

3. Dust on Various Surfaces
Dust tends to accumulate everywhere especially if you do not tend to them. Dust can accumulate on shelves, electronics, frames, light fixtures or other items. And if it is still there when you visit, it might seem that the host does not tend to do their cleaning too often. Regularly dusting areas helps avoid dust to accumulate likt that.

4. Sign of Dirt in Bathroom
A bathroom is the best place to check peoples’ cleanliness. While people are regularly cleaning up their living areas quickly, the bathroom can always be a big give away. Check for things like soap scum, mildew, mold, dust behind toilet, and shower doors. Bathrooms with glistening fixtures and no dust are truly clean.

5. Grease and Crumbs
In the kitchen you need to look for grease build up on cabinets, sticky spots on the countertops and crumbs in corners. A kitchen can seem clean at the first glance but the accumulated grime of use and not cleaning can lead to surfaces revealing the truth once you look more closely.

6. Pet Hair
Pet hair lingering around is another tell tale sign of people not cleaning properly. Even if things are arranged neatly, you can tell that they have not been cleaned by how many pet hairs might be clinging on to it. The odor in homes with pets also is important since cat litter can smell and if a dog has not been bathed, can also produce an unpleasant smell.

7. Dirty Windows and Mirrors
Windows and mirrors in a home are usually a dead giveaway about how someone cleans. Fingerprints, smudges, marks on mirrors and windows can easily give you an idea if the host has properly cleaned or focuses on important details.

8. Baseboards
The vacuum lines on carpets might alert you that someone has vacuumed a space recently but check the baseboards because dirt there will remind you that they have missed spots and possibly done something quickly. Homes that have hardwood flooring, check for sticky spots and grout in between the tiles.

These tips will help you figuring out if someone has cleaned properly or just in a superficial way. What do you think of these tips? Let us know in the comments. Let us know what we might have missed as well!
