I Thought My Daughter Was Just Cold—Until I Noticed Something Was Wrong

Annie was my second child, quiet and reserved, unlike her older brother Brady, who talked to anyone about anything. Annie rarely spoke unless necessary. She expressed herself through small gestures—pointing when she wanted something or turning away when she didn’t feel comfortable. That spring was overwhelming. The nurse gently asked Annie to draw a place where she felt worried. Annie drew our hallway closet, adding a small figure inside and writing the number 47 beneath it. The simplicity of the drawing made it more unsettling. In that moment, everything shifted. I realized that sudden fear and silence in a child often have a reason. Instead of making excuses, I understood the importance of paying attention—and truly listening when something feels wrong.READ MORE BELOW
