Prince Philip had a horrible nickname for Meghan Markle

The intricate dynamics within the British royal family have long been a subject of public fascination.

Over the years, this illustrious and influential family has experienced its fair share of ups and downs.

When Meghan Markle joined the fold, public opinion on Prince Harry’s choice was deeply divided. Some felt Meghan, a divorcee, wasn’t the ideal match for the cherished Prince, but the royal family welcomed her warmly.

Recently, a royal commentator disclosed a less-than-flattering nickname that the late Prince Philip had for Meghan.

This moniker drew parallels between Meghan and Wallis Simpson, the controversial American divorcee who married former King Edward VIII.

Reportedly, Prince Philip held a rather unfavorable view of Meghan, a revelation that surfaced in a tell-all book providing insider perspectives on the royal family.

Wallis Simpson, an American divorcee, became the Duchess of Windsor. She remains one of the most controversial figures in royal history after King Edward VIII abdicated in 1936 to marry her.

Back then, royal protocol forbade marriage to divorcees, a rule that stood until 2002, just before Prince Charles wed Camilla.

Following their marriage, King Edward and Wallis faced exile and public scrutiny, even photographed in Nazi Germany making the infamous Nazi salute to Adolf Hitler.

During a GB News interview, royal expert Ingrid Seward shared Prince Philip’s perspective. She suggested that he saw many similarities between Meghan and Wallis Simpson, inspiring him to coin a nickname for his grandson’s wife.

Seward remarked, “Prince Philip had a keen eye for people, often seeing their best qualities. He couldn’t help but notice the likenesses between Meghan and Harry and Edward and Ms Simpson, hence his nickname for her, the Duchess of Windsor, or DOW, though he never said it to her face.”

In her book ‘My Mother and I,’ Seward revealed that Prince Philip was “wary” of Meghan’s influence on the royal family.

Conversely, Queen Elizabeth reportedly had high expectations for Meghan.

After stepping back from their royal roles and relocating to California for a quieter life, the Sussexes have remained in the public eye, giving interviews, producing documentaries, and even publishing books that unveil insider secrets about the royal family.

According to the Daily Express, Harry is set to return to the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, attending a service at St. Paul’s Cathedral on May 8. Meghan will not accompany him, staying in the US due to safety concerns and a desire to avoid controversy.
