While My Husband Was at Work, the Twin We Never Knew About Came Home Pretending to Be Him

Marissa was at home, expecting her husband, Hayden, to return in a few hours. But when the doorbell rings early, she’s surprised to find him standing there. He looks like Hayden, but something feels wrong. He’s acting distant, calling her “babe” instead of the usual nicknames, and he seems unfamiliar with the house.

As he searches the bedroom and asks about things that don’t make sense, Marissa becomes increasingly suspicious. Her concerns deepen when he mentions their “family stash” of cash, which they don’t have. At her suggestion, she leads him to the basement, claiming the cash is there.

Once he steps inside, she slams the door shut, locks it, and calls Hayden—the real one—who confirms that a man who looks just like him is in their house. Hayden tells her to stay outside and call the police. When the police arrive, the imposter, who introduces himself as Grant, is quietly apprehended. He confesses that he and Hayden are twins, separated at birth due to a clerical error. Grant grew up in a group home, never knowing he had a brother. After meeting Hayden at a bar, he followed him, mimicking his life, and even showing up in their house.

Hayden is stunned by the revelation and regrets never telling Marissa about his twin. Though Marissa is shaken, she tries to understand, but she’s still processing the bizarre situation. Hayden later offers Grant a job at his warehouse, and they invite him over for dinner. The atmosphere is tense, but Grant seems grateful for the small gesture,

Despite the awkwardness, Marissa realizes that her life has been irreversibly changed, but her trust in Hayden remains. She reflects on the strange encounter, and the odd, unsettling feeling lingers, especially as she watches Waffles, their cat, still recognizing the real Hayden. Even after the dinner, as they try to make things work, Marissa can’t forget the chilling encounter with Grant.
