A mechanic was stunned to discover that his two young sons had been inside his ex-wife’s Mercedes during a serious crash after she brought the damaged vehicle to his repair shop. Craig, a 38-year-old father of two, had been pressured into repairing the car after his ex-wife threatened to interfere with his scheduled parenting time. While dismantling the vehicle, Craig found his five-year-old son’s damaged booster seat and a small toy dinosaur the boy had carried everywhere.
Craig became even more concerned after examining the vehicle’s crash data. The records showed that the Mercedes had been traveling at 58 mph in a 35 mph zone when the crash occurred at 1:42 a.m. The data also indicated that both children had been buckled into the rear seats. Parts recovered from the vehicle appeared to show that it had struck a mailbox and another vehicle, contradicting the story that the Mercedes had simply hit a deer.
During a dinner with his sons, Craig gently asked his eight-year-old son Rick about the damaged toy and the crash. The boy reportedly revealed that his mother and her new husband, Brent, had been driving home from a party when the incident occurred. According to Rick, Brent had been drinking, drove at high speed, lost control of the vehicle and struck a mailbox and a parked car. The family allegedly left the scene without reporting the crash, and the children were told not to discuss what had happened.
Craig then contacted a family-law attorney and was advised to preserve the damaged vehicle parts, the booster seat and other evidence before making further repairs. He was also urged to contact police because the incident could involve a hit-and-run, impaired driving and the concealment of evidence involving children. What began as a routine repair job ultimately uncovered a secret that could have significant legal and custody consequences for the family.READ MORE BELOW
